Actor Ranbir Kapoor opened up on the importance of understanding one’s background during his appearance at the 50th International Indian Film Festival in Goa. The 42-year-old announced a special film festival dedicated to his grandfather, and filmmaker Raj Kapoor, and underscored the significance of knowing such iconic movie personalities. He referred to his wife and actor, Alia Bhatt, who didn’t know the legendary musician Kishore Kumar once.
RK, as he is popularly called, shared that this film festival will help people know his grandfather’s work better, and understand where he was coming from. The actor took his wife’s example to elaborate his point.
He said, “We are going to have a film festival from 13th to 15th December. All over India, we are going to release his (Raj Kapoor’s) movies. So, I am really hopeful you guys will check out his work because there are so many people who haven’t seen his work. I remember the first time I met Alia, she asked me, ‘Who is Kishore Kumar?’ It’s just the circle of life. People are forgotten, and then a newer artiste comes.”
Ranbir added, “I think it’s very important that we remember our roots. Not just Mr Raj Kapoor, there are so many filmmakers and artistes that we should constantly celebrate. And I am really grateful to IFFI for doing this.”
The popular Bollywood actor shared that the special film festival has been organised in association with NFDC, NFAI, Film Heritage Foundation of India, and his uncle, Kunal Kapoor – all of whom have worked together in restoring Raj Kapoor’s films.
Meanwhile, Ranbir is busy working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on his next film titled Love and War. He has teamed up with Alia and Vicky Kaushal for the same. He has got a stunning lineup of films further, which includes titles like Animal Park, and Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, in which he plays the role of Lord Ram. Speculations are also rife about him headlining YRF’s Dhoom 4, and beginning the shooting of Brahmastra 2 soon.
